How To Upcycle Tin Cans Into A Box

Atomic Shrimp demonstrates how to upcycle tin cans into a box in this upcycling video.  It’s a pretty neat little project!

If you don’t have a rivet gun, you could perhaps use some brads to fix the hinge and clasp.

Also, if you don’t have any chinese roast eel cans you could use sardine cans!  I think this could be done with circular tins (such as tuna) however the hinge would need to be manually shaped to fit the tin and you’d need to find a clasp small enough so that it’s not affected by the curvature of the can.

The materials and equipment that you will need to make your upcycled box are shown below.

Materials
  • 2 empty tin cans (chinese roast eel cans were used in this example)
  • 1 butterfly hinge
  • Pop rivets
  • 1 case catch
Equipment
  • Pop (blind) rivet gun
  • Duct tape
  • Bradle
Did you know?

In the UK, up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the bin could be recycled.

I wonder what percentage could be upcycled?
