Chris from The Curbly Video Podcast demonstrates how to reuse computer parts to make a picture frame. This is a pretty cool upcycling project but it does require cutting tools.
BE SAFE! When you cut or sand circuit boards make sure you wear breathing protection – – the dust is hazardous. Also wear protective eye wear and a pair of gloves.
Silica dust is so fine that you can breathe in a lot of it without feeling it or seeing it in the air. Breathing a lot of silica dust causes permanent harm to the lungs called silicosis. There is no cure for silicosis, and it usually gets worse over time.
The materials and equipment that you’ll need to make your upcycled circuit board picture frame are shown below.
- Circuit board
- Poster board / cardboard
- Safety glasses
- Dust mask
- Marker pen
- Set square or ruler
- Rotary tool (e.g. Dremel) + cutting and grinding bits
- Wooden block (to place under the circuit board when cutting)
