Izzy MEIMsaab demonstrates how to upcycle an old skirt into a bag in this upcycling tutorial. Izzy provides clear instructions that are easy to follow and the leather skirt that she used makes a beautiful leather tote bag.
This is so much easier than making a bag from scratch and it’s fully lined! All the materials and equipment that you’ll need to upcycle your old skirt into a bag are listed below.
- An old skirt
- Thread in an appropriate colour to match or contrast your bag
- 2 handles
- 4 d-rings
- Scrap cardboard for the base
- Sharp fabric scissors
- A measuring tape
- Something to mark out the length e.g. a pen or dressmakers chalk
- Leather sewing needle (Izzy recommends a no 16 needle) if your skirt is made of leather.
- An iron
- A sewing machine
Have you ever tried to upcycle an old skirt into a bag or have you just tried this tutorial? How did it work out?
