In this video, Caroline Malcolm (aka me!) demonstrates an upcycling clothing idea – revamping your old tops with hot foils.
It gives your top a whole new look and saves you having to buy a new one! You’ll find a couple of links to the hot foils and bondaweb below:
- This ebay seller has lots of different colours / patterns of textile hot foils – http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/patsy_may?_… (remember to place the shiny side upwards!)
- Here’s a listing for some of the bondaweb sheet – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuse-A-Web-… (Remember it’s the rough side that faces the fabric)
You can print out and trace over a pattern or shape if you’re struggling for design inspiration.
The materials and equipment that you’ll need to revamp your old top with hot foils are shown below.

Did You Know?
While some items of used clothing are sold through charity shops, a large quantity of material is collected for sorting – either in the UK or abroad – and then exported for sale in Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) estimated that in 2012 a third of all clothing bought in the UK ended up in landfill, with around 350,000 tonnes of material disposed of in this manner.
